Welcome !
Hampshire 40+ Walking Group is a walking group affiliated to the Ramblers Association and was founded in 2010 by a number of people moving out of the age group traditionally served by the Hampshire 20s and 30s Walking Group.
We offer a range of walks from short evening walks to a full day's walking across the whole of Hampshire.
There is no charge for walking with us but we do request that you join the Ramblers Association if you would like to walk with us on a regular basis. We adopt a leisurely pace and value the social side of the walks as much as the walks themselves.
When we're not walking, we like to relax and have fun. Alongside our walks we have an active social programme with members hosting pub nights, restaurant meals, theatre trips etc. We also like to explore further afield, and organise weekend trips for group members. Whether you enjoy the coast or the mountains, there's something for everyone.
We are closely associated with our sister group - the Hampshire 20s and 30s walking group. Members are welcome to attend the walks of this group and vice versa.
The website should answer any questions you have, but if not please feel free to contact us.
News & Views
Hi all
Here is the February newsletter, please keep an eye on this website for news and additional walks/events
Walks programme
We have seven 40+ walks coming up in January (Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th, Saturday 11th, Saturday 18th, two on Sunday 19th, Wednesday 22nd). The walk on the 11th needs to be pre-booked as it is a guided walk of the Titchfield Haven nature reserve.
More 40+ walks are always welcome! Short walks are especially popular with new walkers. Proposals for walks can be submitted any time (although we would recommend at least a couple of weeks before the walk itself) via the members-only area. To submit your walk/event details, click on ‘Add an Event’ icon on the left hand side.
A walk record!
There were 50 people on Clive’s walk on Sunday 22nd January which is the highest turnout yet! It is really nice to see so much interest. However it can cause difficulty for the walk leader to manage. If such interest continues we would like to be able to offer two walks on a Sunday (one short, one long perhaps). This however would only be possible if new walk leaders come forward.
Walks planning meeting
A walks planning meeting will take place on Thursday 2 February at the West Meon Hut pub. This is an opportunity to talk to experienced walk leaders within the group and get inspired about leading walks! The more walk leaders we have, the more walks on the programme! More details on the website or members-only area. This is also a pub social event.
Trips away
The cottages are currently full for the trip to the Cotswolds in March but those who still want to join us can book their own accommodation in either the local youth hostel, B&B or hotel.
The Easter trip to Haworth and Bronte country is also currently full. However, it may be possible to book additional spaces if you contact Carl as soon as possible.More details on the website or members-only area.
The West Midlands 40+ group has invited us to join them on a trip to Anglesey over the first May Bank Holiday (4-7 May). More details on the website or members-only area.
There is now a trip to the Peak District at end of May staying in the picturesque village of Hartington. The accommodation is cottages and the walks will be led by the One Step Walkers (40s walking group for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire). More details on the website and book your place in the members-only area.
There will also be a camping trip over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend (1-4 June) in North Devon – look out for more details soon!
More trips are being planned so watch this space!
